Custom nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs are an increasingly popular choice for many applications due to their low cost, durability and low operational risk to the end user. This chemistry type can offer a wider operating temperature range than some Li-ion batteries, combined with much lower development and product costs, making NiMH the product of choice for many commercial and industrial applications. Typically used in applications where low discharge rates are required and cost is a critical factor, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries have a nominal voltage rating of 1.2V and a usable energy range of 1.0V – 1.45V per cell. Available in a variety of cylindrical cell sizes, offering capacities ranging from a few hundred mAh to over 10Ah, this gives designers of custom NiMH packs many different options when solving customer problems. NiMH battery packs can accept charge and discharge rates up to 1C, therefore, these custom packs are able to perform challenging tasks and require minimal charging time. Most applications with high energy consumption and demands are where NiMH battery packs are advantageous.
