Classification Of Batteries-Chemical And Physical
Introduction
When we take a closer look at the various battery types, we can see that there are significant differences in their chemistry, uses, performance, and more.
Details

 Chemical battery:

Primary battery:

1. Carbon zinc dry battery:

- Chemical composition: usually consists of zinc (negative electrode), manganese dioxide (positive electrode), alkaline electrolyte and a wetting agent for the electrolyte.
- Purpose: For single-use applications such as remote controls, flashlights, alarm clocks and other low-power devices.
- Advantages: low price and easy to buy.
- Disadvantages: short life, easy to leak.

2. Alkaline manganese battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive electrode is manganese dioxide, the negative electrode is zinc, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide.
- Usage: Suitable for equipment requiring high power output, such as flashlights, toys, portable speakers, etc.
- Advantages: high power density and relatively long service life.
- Disadvantages: The price is slightly high and cannot be stored for a long time.

3. Lithium battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive is an oxide or phosphate, the negative is carbon or lithium alloy, and the electrolyte is an organic solvent and lithium salt.
- Usage: Widely used in portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, cameras, etc., as well as power tools, electric vehicles and other fields.
- Advantages: high energy density, long life, no memory effect.
- Disadvantages: higher cost and safety risks.

Primary and secondary batteries:

1. Lead-acid battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive electrode is lead peroxide (PbO2), the negative electrode is pure lead (Pb), and the electrolyte is sulfuric acid.
-Usage: Mainly used in car batteries, UPS systems, solar energy storage systems, etc.
- Advantages: low cost, good stability.
- Disadvantages: large size, heavy weight, short cycle life.

2. Nickel-cadmium battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive electrode is nickel hydroxide (NiOOH), the negative electrode is nickel hydride (NiH2), and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide or lithium hydroxide.
-Usage: It has been widely used in portable equipment, such as digital cameras, portable power tools, etc.
- Advantages: long cycle life and good high-temperature performance.
- Disadvantages: There is a "memory effect", the capacity gradually decreases, and it contains toxic cadmium.

3. Nickel-metal hydride battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive electrode is nickel oxide (NiOOH), the negative electrode is hydrogenated alloy, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide.
-Usage: Mainly used in electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, energy storage systems, etc.
- Advantages: environmentally friendly, no memory effect.
- Disadvantages: higher price, low capacity density.

4. Lithium-ion battery:

-Chemical composition: The positive is an oxide or phosphate, the negative is carbon or lithium alloy, and the electrolyte is an organic solvent and lithium salt.
-Usage: Widely used in mobile phones, tablets, power tools, electric vehicles, etc.
- Advantages: high energy density, lightweight, no memory effect.
- Disadvantages: high cost, safety needs attention.

Other batteries:

Fuel cells: Use hydrogen, methanol, etc. as fuel to react with oxygen to generate electrical energy, which is used in spacecraft, drones and other fields.
Air battery: Uses oxygen in the air as active material for disposable batteries, commonly found in small electronic devices such as button batteries.
Paper battery: It uses paper substrate and is mainly used for disposable electronic products, such as disposable thermometers, RFID tags, etc.
Photocell: Also known as solar cell, it converts light energy into electrical energy and is mainly used in solar power generation systems, calculators, etc.
Nanobattery: Made using nanotechnology, it has the characteristics of high efficiency and high density. It is still in the research and experimental stage.

Physical battery:

Solar cells:Use the energy of photons to excite electrons and generate current. They are mainly used in solar power generation systems, calculators, solar chargers, etc.
